Introduction
Battles against the soul of children are fiercer now than before. The devil is marking every effort to possess and oppress children through so many means such as peer pressure, smoking, drug abuse, sexual abuse, phonograph, cultism, interment and other vices. Whereas, God’s expectation for parents is to have victory over our children (His special heritage) so that we will not fall short of His expectation for making us mothers. How then can we be victorious mothers?
God’s requirement from us in order to get victory over our children
- Prayer is a major key: First of all we must trust God in the place of prayers over our children. We must go on our kneels for them. I learnt of a woman who took out time to pray for all her children and they all became useful instruments in the hand of God. Her name is Susanna Wesley, the mother of John Wesley and Charles Wesley.
- Teach them God’s word: The Bible in Deu. 6:6-7 tells us that “ And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up” God expect us to teach our children His word. When they are taught, they will leave by the standard of God.
- Be there for them: Create time for them, don’t be too busy looking for how to take care of their physical need and leave them in the hands of the destroyer.
- Discipline is very important: Don’t spear the rod and spoil the child. In doing this, you need to let the child know why he/she is been disciplined so as not to do such things again.
Conclusion
Bible encourage us to ‘train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it’- This is a major way in which we can attain the level of getting victory over our children.
Let’s trust God to help us in bringing up our children in the right way.
